FireFox Extension
Monday, February 26th, 2007I wrote my first firefox extension over the weekend. I will attempt to get it approved by mozilla. But in the mean time, I thought introduce it here if anyone is interested in testing it.
The package can be found here:
http://www.troarty.com/tmp/randy.zip (please rename it to randy.xpi)
What does it do?
This extension was designed mostly for Myspace users but may be useful for other kinds of sites. When firefox is pointed to a given web page, this extension will randomly jump to one link from that page every 180 seconds. Again, This extension was mostly designed for Myspace users who want to keep up with music from their myspace friends. the extension (named randomeister) will shuffle through the pages of the user’s myspace friends. (If they appear on the given page). The user can open up a second instance of firefox while randomeister shuffles in the background. Hopefully this background page shuffling will give the effect of a radio station.
How does it work?
The user points his/her browser to a myspace home page. The user then
enables this extension (called “randomeister”). Randomeister reads all the links on the page that contain the word “viewprofile”. Then, every 180 seconds, randomeister will open another one of these page links.
How Does a user enable the extension?
The user must:
what else does randomeister do?
randomeister can also randomly shuffle through other types of pages (besides msypace), but the user needs to provide additonal information in the “start randomeister” dialog box.
Technical Information?
In the comments section of this post I plan to give a brief overview of pages that helped me in the development process.
