Thanks to thanassis for introducing me to yubnub and rubnub. In short time and with help from Jeremy’s Picks, I found a few favorite commands that I want to run at least once or twice a day. It was tough to remember these commands until I found yet another really cool yubnub command called “sidenub”. Here is a picture of “sidenub” in action:

But I needed a custom version of sidenub. i.e. I needed my browser to remember my favorite yubnub commands when I quit for the day.
I needed it to look like the following picture even after restarting my browser:

So how did I customize sidenub to look like this picture? Follow these directions:

*point your browser to http://www.yubnub.org/

*type “sidenub” and hit enter

*The sidenub sidebar will appear in your browser. History will be blank.

Here’s the trick:

*Save the html file:
*click on “file”, then click on “save as”
save this to your favorite folder and give it the name “sidenub.html”
*close your browser.
*open sidenub.html with your favorite text editor (e.g. notepad)
*look for the following line:
var SavedCommands = “man SideNub, yubgrub,slash,weather 55555″;

*change this line to:
var SavedCommands = “craigs philadelphia,m 19007,gloc pizza 19007,weather 19007,stock dow qqqq goog,dpop,news,sgma,ym,simpsons,jobs developer 19007,www.troarty.com/blog”;

of course, change philadelphia to your city name and change 19007 to your zip code and change dow, qqqq,goog to your favorite stock symbols.

*save the file. (make sure the name of the file doesn’t change upon saving).

*doubleclick on sidenub.html.

*Congratulations, you now have your own customized yubnub / sidenub html file.

*double click on sidenub.html and enjoy!

If you aren’t familiar with any of these yubnub commands that I selected (listed above), here’s a brief overview. If you need more info, use the yubnub “man” command.

1. craigs philadelphia - launches craigslist for philly
2. m 19007 - shows you what movies are playing in your zip code.
3. gloc pizza 19007 finds pizza shops in your zip code.
4. weather 19007 - gives you weather for your zip code.
5. stock dow qqqq goog - stock graphs for dow, nasdaq and google
6. dpop - shows you most popular public bookmarks per de.licio.us.
7. news - news per cnn
8. simpsons - get a fun quote from the simpson tv show.
9. ,jobs developer 19007 - find developer jobs in given zip code.
10. www.troarty.com/blog - goes to my blog
